Common questions

The "Compare" button shows "Cannot read other doc"

This means your Google account doesn't have access to the document at the URL you pasted. Make sure the document is shared with you (or with anyone with the link, if it's a public document). Differing Reader only reads documents you are authorized to access.

Nothing happens when I click Compare

If this is your first time using the add-on, you may see an authorization prompt — accept the requested permissions and try again. If the problem persists, try closing and reopening the sidebar.

The diff is showing whole paragraphs as changed even though only one word differs

This is expected. The diff operates at the line level, where each paragraph counts as one line. A change anywhere in a paragraph flags the whole paragraph as changed. The before-and-after content is still shown side by side so you can see the actual difference.

How do I revoke access?

Go to https://myaccount.google.com/permissions and remove Differing Reader. After revocation, the add-on cannot read any of your documents.

Is my document content stored anywhere?

No. Document text is processed in memory for the duration of a single comparison and discarded immediately. See the privacy policy for full details.
